Profile

Ron Croudy, better known as Rontronik, is a music producer, DJ, and co-founder of micro-label Töshöklabs. Based in New York City, the diverse music aficionado has been creating intelligent dance music (IDM) for over a decade. In 1999, Ron debuted his first two tracks on a compilation entitled “Töshöklabs Presents: Dated” under the monikers “technique:concrete” and “Cardboardmen”. In August of 2007, he put out his first solo release on Töshöklabs, the “Magma EP”. 2011 is slated to be a productive year for Rontronik, complete with exclusive collaborations and a growing catalog of digital releases including of his online dj mix broadcast series simply titled “Radio Rontronik”.

Rontronik began seriously making music in 1991 and often refers to his particular brand of sound as Abstract Electronica. Ron’s love for the sonically extraordinary was taken to new heights in 1998 when he co-founded the IDM (Intelligent Dance Music)/Electronica label, Töshöklabs, with his partners Nate and Chad Harrison. The label and its innovative work began to quickly garner attention and in 2001, the label was asked to deejay BitStreams, a multimedia electronic art exhibition at The Whitney Museum of American Art. This was followed by the Toshoklab’s scoring of “The Genome Project” at the Natural History Museum in New York, an exhibit that focused on the human genome which ironically matched the intricate nature of Töshöklabs’ music.

Born and raised in Flint, Michigan, Rontronik graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Life Drawing & Graphic Design. Co-founder of Smartbomb Creative Studio, Ron spends his days art directing for a diverse clientele and has designed album covers for musicians such as Ghostface Killah, A Tribe Called Quest, KRS-One, Anti-Pop Consortium, and Company Flow. In addition to his own music, Rontronik has been spinning for many special events around the world and several Manhattan venues including Von Kellar, NuBlu, Studio B, APT, and Fat Baby for years. He currently holds residencies at Botanica and PandaNYC and is a guest DJ from time-to-time at various NYC locales while producing experimental electronic releases like “Android Architecture”, “Sexy Dance Climax”, “Monstrosity”, and “Soft Material 23″.
